I have always been a homebody. And while I love a fun night out with girlfriends, or a date night with my husband, my favorite place to be is truly my home. Curled up on the couch with a book, cozy blanket and a cup of tea or wine is my best version of a good time. When an anniversary, birthday or holiday comes around, my family knows (and jokes) that they can’t go wrong with a new blanket, or something blue and white for the home. I’m very predictable that way.
While I would never choose to spend as much time at home as we all have been these past few weeks, I am trying to make the most of this unforeseeable situation and stay grateful for being able to stay safe with my family, in my happiest place. There are admittedly moments where there are too many people in a too small house, but we are certainly not taking this privilege of being able to stay home for granted.
I have been enjoying our “pajama casual” wardrobe, occasional bonfires in the yard on warm nights, virtual cocktail hours with friends, and re-arranging things in my home that bring me joy. While I have not taken on any of the projects I imagined I’d have time to accomplish in these weeks (honestly, small tasks and projects are all I can take on right now without feeling overwhelmed) I have gained even more appreciation for all of the things I have always taken for granted in the past. While we are are missing normal school days with friends, we are also missing birthdays, holidays, and milestones that under normal circumstances, we are able to celebrate with friends.
If you are looking for items to gift to a loved one for a birthday, or thank you, or even just to bring them some unexpected joy during this hard time, some of my favorite ideas to help keep the stay-at-home-blues away (and yes, they are all blue!) are posted above. A pretty tumbler to keep their wine cold but their hands warm, a cozy blanket or robe, a calendar to help keep track of what day it is (I am constantly losing track), a tray for nibbles on the couch (or in bed), a cozy and stylish fleece, or maybe just something pretty to add to their home. All of these items ship, and the best part is that most come from small businesses and will help to support families directly during this tough economic chapter.
